Mad

During Blaise and Dulinte's eldest child's first year at Hogwarts.

To say that he was mad would have been a gross misstatement of the emotions currently fueling him. He was more aptly put, furious. Completely livid at the mismanagement of something as important as this. Really, there was hardly anything that rated above this in his opinion.

"What do you mean she's not here," he asked the bumbling official softly, with a dangerous gleam in his eye. " Explain it to me now" he ordered, "Or I will show you just how unforgiving I can be." He hissed the last part so that the listening devices would not be able to pick it up.

"She's...she's not here, my Lord. I...I...apologize for the state of matters , but...but the school cannot be...held liable for students....ig...ignoring the safety protocols that have been instituted for their own good." The lackey stammered out.

Blaise's eyes blazed, "Were you not even listening, you sycophantic scum sucker. She was not outside, voluntarily walking out of the safety boundaries. She was in her room, you idiotic meal grubber, talking with her mother when someone took her. We heard it, we have a recording of it, plus Pensieve memories. Someone took her from her bed and it is your job to find out what happened. Get to it or so help me , I will take matters into my own hands."

The school official looked as if he was going to soil himself, so Blaise let him leave. He pinched the bridge of his nose in an effort to stave off the headache he knew was coming. Someone somehow had strolled right into Hogwarts and kidnapped his baby girl. Out of her Merlin-cursed bed! Her bed! He was going to catch hell for this later, but Dulinte was teaching and couldn't come back for the moment and after she'd told him about Alana's abrupt end to their conversation, he'd immediately investigated it. When her roommate informed him that Alana wasn't there, he'd suspected the worse.

To have his suspicions confirmed was just the tip of the iceburg. Blaise took a deep breath and let it out. He'd already tried scrying for his child, but the results had been inconclusive and that worried him more than he let show. Neville and Millicent had been with him at the time he'd gotten Dulinte's call and they'd also come here with him.

"Sorry Blaise, no traces of 'Lana here anywhere." Millicent offered apologetically. Neville squeezed his shoulder, "No one heard or saw anything either and I checked for memory modification spells and all." Blaise nodded once, "Thank you for your help. I will take it from here." He took a deep breath and opened himself to the other side of his heritage, asking Legba for guidance and protection.

Just then Kingsley burst in, scanning the room until he'd found them. "We got a tip on some Dark activities taking place up near Cornwall and when we tracked it down, we found them," he told them. Blaise nodded once, "Thanks Dad, is she..." he left off the end of that sentence, not really wanting the answer and yet at the same time needing it. Kingsley shook his head, " She's fine, Blaise. Though she'll have nightmares for a bit, I reckon. One of the other girls with them didn't make it. 'Lana tried to help her." Blaise winced, he remembered that feeling of watching people die in front of you when you've no way to stop it. He looked up as he heard her cry, "Papa!" He shot over to her side and quickly picked her up and held her close for a moment. "Alana Grace, you almost scared the magic out of me." He whispered to her. She giggled once, before asking him, "Can we go home now?" He nodded once, "Aunt Millicent has your things and you're coming home for a little while, so we can fuss over you and then decide what needs to be done about school." Alana nodded, "I don't want to leave Hogwarts, but that was so scary, Daddy." Blaise squeezed her a little tighter, "I bet it was, sweetheart."

*A few months later*

Kingsley Shacklebolt closed the case file on the suspected Dark practitioners that had kidnapped his granddaughter. The case was over. They'd caught one of them and sent him to Azkaban. The others...well the others hadn't ever turned up again and somehow he didn't think they ever would. His son was through after all.

Meanwhile Blaise smiled as he watched Alana and her siblings playing in the yard. All his children were safe and those responsible were taken care of. And he had an appointment with the Board of governs to discuss additional security measures for the school.

All was well. For now.
