What does respect mean to me?

There's an interesting question. Respect for a business standpoint means we agree to take each other seriously, to uphold whatever ends of a given project that we have said we would uphold and to be upright and direct with you if an issue pops up.

This does NOT mean we will let you trample over us and our employees. Nor does it mean that because we do business together, you have a controlling interest in what I do with my holdings, time, and how I manage my employees and my money.

Respect from a non-business standpoint? It means that at some point in my life, my wife and her myriad assortment of relatives will learn to take me seriously. That her eldest daughter and son will actually figure out that I'm not going anywhere, I'm not going to leave their mother high and dry to deal with five kids whilst I go on my merry way.

I'm not their father. I'm here to stay. Also to that end, while I am not their blood relative, they do owe me the same respect they pay to their mother. Undermining me in my own home in front of my wife and children, their half-siblings, is not something I will tolerate. Ever.

It means that my wife and I will hold mutual respect for each other and we won't run off willy-nilly making huge decisions that affect everyone without talking it out between the two of us. We both have issues with this, I recognize that I share blame here - it is somethign I'm working on.

To my sometimes not quite so dead mother-in-law, for the love of Merlin, CALL FIRST. Secondly, really if you are going to bother with the details of coming back, why in Merlin's Great Girdle would you deliberately pick a fight with your daughter and heir? She's not you. She'll make different decisions and work on things perhaps differently from the way you would. It's NOT A BAD THING. DEAL WITH IT.

To my recently found biological father: Yes! Life is awkward, trying to get to know a son whose already grown, but it can happen. We can work stuff through. Just because I have repressed anger issues from growing up with no real stable male influence save for Papa Zabini...it doesn't mean I don't live you. I'm trying. Please try with me.

To my father-in-law, I appreciate you more than words can say...however if you were indirectly/directly responsible for the twins' new "pets" I think I may have to strangle you.

To my son-in-law, see above. Other than that, thanks for the coffee, I'm enjoying the brew.

To my wife's Sisters, Call first before coming over, unless it's an emergency. and by the definition of emergency, I mean blood and guts gushing out somewhere, the space/time cortex is badly out of whack (please don't tell me how you fix that - I like my brain in one piece), or the Manor or Duelists' School is under imminent invasion.

Shoe emergencies Do Not Count. You all will not cease to exist if you don't see my wife every day, nor will the world implode if she goes on vacation. You are capable intelligent women! Act like it!

To my mother, rot in hell and please stay there.

To my Tante and Maman, I'm doing the best I can with what I have. Please stop treating me like I'm six.

To my friends...well we went through some nasty times and came out alive, if nothing else. I really have nothing to say to you here other than...we're good.

To Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, Hufflepuffs at large and in general, we're not all evil flesh-eating spawns of Satan. Slytherins are for the most part decent folk once you get past their outer shells. We're ambitious and cunning and manipulative, but we're upfront and dare I say...honest about it.

We're proud, and many of us are proud of our Pureblooded heritage, and that doesn't automatically translate as evil. Saint Potter was almost one of us after all.
